Pool, start and character: the water battle for the Regional Cup opened in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, the regional swimming competitions have kicked off. On Friday, 15 May 2026, the opening of the Mykolaiv Region Swimming Cup took place at the sports complex “Zorya”, the Mykolaiv Regional Council reported.

The first to take the start were the war veterans. Their participation became one of the main highlights of the opening: the athletes demonstrated strength of spirit, endurance and a readiness to fight not only for results but also for their own recovery and return to active life. Also joining the competition were children and youths of various age categories from the communities of the Mykolaiv region. During the tournament they will compete for top positions in their age groups and will represent their communities at the regional level.

The competitors were greeted by the deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Denys Andriiev, the first deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Heorhiy Reshetilov, as well as representatives of the region’s sports community, relevant institutions and coaches.

During the opening, they emphasized the importance of swimming as a sport that builds character, self-discipline and belief in one’s own abilities.

“Swimming – it is a sport that fosters discipline, perseverance and confidence in one’s abilities. I wish all participants to show themselves with dignity, gain new experience, achieve good results and not stop at what they have achieved,” – emphasized Denys Andriiev.

Such competitions for Mykolaiv have not only a sporting but also a social significance. During the war they become a space where veterans, children, youths, coaches and communities perform side by side, and sport itself works as a tool of support, endurance and returning people to a normal rhythm of life.
