"Collector" Mykolaiv-style: stored grenade launchers, explosive charges, and hundreds of rounds at home
Ammunition among residential buildings: an illegal weapons cache uncovered in Mykolaiv
In Mykolaiv law enforcement officers detained a 42-year-old local resident who is suspected of illegally storing a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition. This was reported by the Mykolaiv region police on May 14 2026.
As part of the criminal investigation, officers of Police Department No.3 of the Mykolaiv District Police conducted sanctioned searches at the man’s place of residence. During the investigative actions, law enforcement seized three handheld anti-tank grenade launchers, six grenade bodies, six smoke grenades, seven detonators and over 670 rounds of various calibers. All seized weapons and ammunition were sent for the appropriate examinations.
Investigators detained the suspect in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region he was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances. Under the charged article, the detainee faces up to seven years of imprisonment. The court is expected to select a preventative measure for the suspect in the near future. The pre-trial investigation continues.
