Concerts, sports and youth in the courtyards: They want to enliven Mykolaiv with cultural events
Dozens of cultural and sporting events, not only in the city center but also in the districts
In Mykolaiv, they plan to more actively organize cultural, sports and youth events in different districts of the city. This issue was discussed during an expanded staff meeting that took place today, 11 May 2026. The idea is that city activities should not be concentrated only in certain locations, but should more often take place on open-air venues in each district. The departments of culture, education and the department for physical culture and sports are expected to join this work.
The mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych during the meeting emphasized that such events matter not only as leisure, but also as a signal to people who remain living in Mykolaiv during the war and after it ends.
“I think that the number of people who will remain in our city after the war ends is very large. And it is important that they see this is not a temporary shelter, but a city where they can raise their children. Performances by ensembles, sports and youth events – the city must live spiritually”, – the mayor noted.
According to Deputy Mayor Anatoliy Petrov, a preliminary schedule for holding about 96 mass cultural events has already been prepared. At the same time, the mayor instructed that cooperation with the emergency situations department must be properly established. In particular, the accessibility of the nearest shelters during such events should be taken into account.
He separately noted that outdoor events can become an additional impetus for reviving city life.
“Perhaps this will give the opportunity to breathe new life into ensemble performances and open-air events. Therefore, it is important to identify several locations in each district,” – reported Oleksandr Sienkevych.
For residents of the districts, particularly Korabelnyi, this initiative may be important, as people repeatedly complain about the lack of accessible places for children’s, youth and family leisure. But in wartime conditions the main issue remains not only the number of events, but the real safety of participants, the presence of nearby shelters and clear on-site organization.
