In Mykolaiv 8 May 2026, a ceremonial event was held for the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War.

This date is observed by Ukraine together with European countries. On this day the memory of millions of people — military personnel and civilians — who died during the bloodiest war of the 20th century is honored. Ukrainians made a significant contribution to the fight against Nazism, demonstrating courage, resilience and heroism in defending the peace and freedom of Europe. Today the Ukrainian people are once again forced to defend their state against the aggressor, protecting their land and democratic values.

Veterans, servicemen, deputy mayors Anatoliy Petrov and Yuriy Andriyenko, representatives of the city and regional authorities, members of the public and city residents took part in the commemorative event in Mykolaiv. Those present observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of all who died during the Second World War, as well as those who fell in the current Russian-Ukrainian war. After that, participants laid flowers at the monument to the Olshansky heroes, the Eternal Flame and the Alley of Glory.
