Children from Mykolaiv once again reminded the capital how to fence

From May 5 to May 6 in Kyiv the all-Ukrainian competitions of the Children’s League in memory of V. Mironyuk “Kyiv Spring” took place. The success of Mykolaiv athletes was reported on May 7, 2026 by the Mykolaiv City Council.

Pupils of the MSDYUSSHOR fencing school proudly represented Mykolaiv and won a number of awards in the épée competitions. Among girls born in 2015 and younger, Mykolaiv athletes took the entire podium. Leola Khotuntsova claimed first place, Valeria Hrynenko became the silver medalist, and Maria Kalachova took third place.

Among boys born in 2015 and younger, another medal for Mykolaiv was won by Lev Halytskyi, who finished second.

The young fencers are coached by Iryna Zykova and Hanna Kalachova. It was their work, together with the children’s perseverance, that produced results at the national level.

For Mykolaiv, and in particular for the Korabelnyi district, such sporting victories are especially important during the war: they show that children’s sport in the city has not stopped, and young athletes continue to represent the community at prestigious competitions.
