In Mykolaiv the court handed down a verdict to a 26-year-old previously convicted resident of Zaporizhzhia, who was accused of a violent robbery attack on a hostel worker. At the time of the offense the man was a serviceman who had deserted his military unit. On May 6, 2026, the press service of the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv reported this.

The case was heard by the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv presided over by Judge Pavlo Charychanskyi. The defendant’s actions were qualified under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court found that on the evening of April 15, 2025 the man was staying in one of the hostels in Mykolaiv. He entered the administrator’s office and, threatening with a kitchen knife, began demanding money. The worker’s screams were heard by a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who was temporarily staying in that hostel. He knocked the knife out of the attacker’s hand. After that, together with two other servicemen, the man was detained on the spot and handed over to police officers. During the trial the defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse.

As a result of the hearing the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 8 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
