Rescuers were killed while extinguishing a fire: Russia struck again in a very cowardly way
They ask for silence and strike with missiles: nighttime attack on Ukraine's energy sector
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced May 5, 2026, that overnight Russian forces launched a series of strikes on the territory of Ukraine, the main target of which was energy infrastructure.
The most tragic consequences were recorded in Poltava region. After the first strike on an energy facility, rescuers arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire. At that moment Russian forces carried out a second missile strike.
As a result of the attack four people were killed, among them — two State Emergency Service (SES) workers. They are Viktor Kuzmenko, awarded the title Hero of Ukraine, who responded to the aftermath of attacks more than 50 times, and Dmytro Skryl, who served in the SES for over 20 years. Dozens of wounded have also been reported.
In addition, strikes were carried out in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv regions.
In Kharkiv region four people were wounded, and one more was killed. In Dnipropetrovsk region three people were injured as a result of the attack. In Pavlohrad power lines were damaged, leaving thousands of families without electricity. Strikes were also recorded in Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv region, where three people were wounded.
“Absolute cynicism – to ask for a pause for propaganda celebrations and to carry out such missile-and-drone strikes on all the days before them. Every day Russia can stop the fighting, and that will stop the war and our responses. Peace is needed, and real steps are required for that. Ukraine will act in a mirror fashion”, – the President emphasized.
