Are Kinzhal missiles no longer invincible? Ukraine announced a breakthrough that could save cities from missiles

Iskanders miss by hundreds of meters, and Shahed drones are losing navigation

In Ukraine officials announced a technological breakthrough in countering Russian hypersonic “Kinzhal” missiles: the domestic electronic warfare system “Lima” has demonstrated the ability to disrupt the guidance of these munitions in flight, which takes on particular significance against the backdrop of a shortage of missiles for Patriot air defenses.

As Kyiv Independent reports, “Lima” was developed by the Ukrainian company Cascade Systems and operates at ranges up to 300 km, disrupting missile navigation and, in some cases, forcing them to fall without detonating.

“When we deployed our EW wall, of 59 Kinzhal missiles fired only one reached the target. All the others were suppressed,” — said the commander of the air defense unit “Night Watch” with the callsign Alkhimik.

According to him, since last summer the system has prevented at least 58 Kinzhal strikes, of which 26 occurred in the first three months of 2026.

The key feature of “Lima” is a third type of signal — essentially a cyberattack that deceives the missile, severs its link to satellites and substitutes navigation data.

“This system truly has no analogues. No one had previously managed to suppress 16– and 32-channel CRPA antennas, let alone at such ranges,” — said the head of EW of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Maksym Skoretskyi.

Besides Kinzhal missiles, “Lima” has shown effectiveness against Shahed drones, and it also reduces the accuracy of Iskander ballistic missile strikes — misses have already reached hundreds of meters.

According to experts, about $1.8 billion is sufficient to fully cover Ukraine against all types of Russian missiles and UAVs — an amount comparable to the cost of just two Patriot systems.
