Three bullets at a pedestrian crossing: driver wounded a pedestrian

In the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, a road conflict between a driver and a pedestrian ended in a shooting. According to the Kyiv police on April 22, 2026, the man who was driving the car fired several times at the passerby during the argument. According to the investigation, it was approximately three shots.

A report about a shooting on Kamyanska Street was received by the Darnytskyi Police Department. Officers from Special Purpose Police Regiment No. 1 and patrol units immediately arrived at the scene. Law enforcement detained a local resident and seized from him a device for firing rubber bullets.

According to the police, the conflict began because the pedestrian was crossing the roadway at an undesignated location. The driver reprimanded him, after which an argument erupted between the men. Later the driver produced a weapon and opened fire toward his opponent. As a result, a Kyiv resident sustained injuries to his leg and back.

The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office, notified him of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism committed with particular audacity using a pre-prepared object to inflict bodily harm. The sanction of this article provides for up to 7 years of imprisonment.

This story once again shows how quickly an everyday road argument can escalate into a serious crime when even a non‑lethal, traumatic weapon ends up in someone’s hands. Against the backdrop of recent high-profile incidents in the capital, the issues of safety, gun handling and control over its use are only becoming more acute.
