The commander of a squad from Russia’s 205th Brigade was sentenced to 10 years in prison for torturing a teenager in the Mykolaiv region
In the Snihurivka community, he and his accomplices held four locals captive, extracting information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces through beatings and threats of sexual violence
The court found a Russian serviceman guilty of cruel treatment of civilians during the occupation of settlements in the Snihurivka community of Bashtanka district, Mykolaiv region, and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.
The regional prosecutor’s office reported the verdict.
According to the investigation, during the temporary occupation the serviceman, together with other members of Russian armed formations, illegally detained four local residents — a 14-year-old teenager, a woman and two men.
The people were held to obtain information about their relatives, in particular about servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as about the locations of Ukrainian military personnel, ATO/JFO participants and territorial defense units.
While being held, the victims were beaten and threatened with sexual violence. In addition, the teenager was forced to perform exhausting physical labor under the pretext of so-called “re-education”.
As a result of the case consideration, the court found the commander of the squad of the 2nd reconnaissance platoon of the 1st reconnaissance company of the 205th separate motorized rifle Cossack brigade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation guilty of cruel treatment of the civilian population and violation of the laws and customs of war under part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The punishment was set as imprisonment for a term of 10 years.
