In Kharkiv Oblast, a 16-year-old gave birth to a child fathered by her biological father — DNA testing confirmed the paternity
The investigation is examining the systematic nature of the rapes; the act is qualified under Part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine
In March this year in one of the villages of Lozova district, Kharkiv region, a 16-year-old girl with intellectual disabilities gave birth to a premature baby; DNA testing showed that the newborn’s father is her biological father. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General. The man has been charged with raping a minor, and the court ordered pre-trial detention.
According to the investigation, the father, aware of his daughter’s mental condition and her inability to fully comprehend events and resist, took advantage of her helplessness. The incident occurred when his wife and the other four underage children were not at home; moreover, law enforcement noted that the man was intoxicated.
The head of the Lozova District Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv region approved the notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — rape of a minor with whom the suspect is in a family relationship. At the prosecutor’s request, the court placed the suspect in custody.
Prosecutors together with police investigators continue to collect and verify evidence, including regarding the possibility that the victim was systematically raped by her biological father. The collected materials will be given proper legal evaluation; the investigation is ongoing.
The head of the Lozova District Prosecutor’s Office publicly commented on the proceedings and emphasized the inadmissibility of violence against children.
“The father knew that his child, because of her mental condition, was unable to fully understand events and resist, and he took advantage of this to satisfy his own cynical needs… Acts like this against children, and especially those committed by parents, are inexcusable.”
