In Mykolaiv, using artificial intelligence technologies they scanned and analyzed more than 80% of the road network — this is the first example in Ukraine of such a large-scale digital audit of pavement condition, Mykolaiv Water Hub reported.

Data collection and processing made it possible to obtain a detailed picture for each section of the street and road network. Types of defects were recorded, including cracks, potholes, worn road markings, problematic manholes and other damages that affect traffic safety and comfort.

Thanks to this approach, the city is moving away from generalized assessments of road quality and shifting to precise, targeted planning of repairs. Based on the measurement dataset, it is possible to determine in advance the volume of materials required, prepare restoration projects and set work priorities according to degree of wear and the importance of routes.

A separate analysis block is devoted to the impact of infrastructure on the environment: additional CO₂ emissions caused by frequent braking of vehicles on damaged sections are taken into account, and their possible reduction after repairs and traffic normalization is modeled.

The accumulated data will be incorporated into the city’s future infrastructure initiatives. In particular, they will be used in the development of the “Health Route”, which will be implemented jointly with international partners with the support of the German government.

These developments are also viewed as a foundation for attracting international investment and for further systematic restoration of urban infrastructure.
