Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have launched 311 attacks on Mykolaiv using missiles, guided aerial bombs and attack drones. Russian shelling has killed 195 people in the city, including three children. Another 985 residents have been wounded, including 38 children. These figures were cited by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych in an interview with Apostrophe, published on October 8, 2026.

According to the mayor, Russian forces target not only residential buildings and private homes, but also critical and port infrastructure. Already-destroyed sites are often hit as well, including the Kulbakine military airfield and port infrastructure.

Oleksandr Sienkevych also noted that the city authorities no longer calculate the total cost of the damage caused by Russian attacks. They used to make such estimates, but stopped after 2023, deciding that it would be more appropriate to assess the damage once hostilities have ended.

“We stopped calculating it after 2023. We simply realized that it would be better to do this after hostilities end,” the mayor explained.

At the same time, the consequences of every new strike are still being documented. The mayor said that after shelling, representatives of the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Planning of Ukraine (DIAM) record damage and destruction, and the information is entered into the state register of damaged and destroyed property.

Thus, although the city authorities do not calculate the total monetary value of the damage, information about damaged and destroyed sites continues to accumulate in the register.
