Urged to blow up law enforcement officers: administrator of an extremist Telegram channel detained
The SBU, with assistance from the FBI, detained a man who was promoting terrorist attacks via Telegram
In Kyiv the Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (United States), detained the founder and administrator of an extremist Telegram channel. According to the investigation, the man used the resource to spread calls for terrorist attacks against law enforcement officers in Ukraine and partner countries. The SBU reported this on October 6 2026.
According to the case materials, the detainee created his own Telegram channel where he urged users to attack Ukrainian and foreign law enforcement officers using improvised explosive devices. In addition, the administrator distributed video materials to the audience with instructions on how to make explosives and commit other crimes. Law enforcement also documented that the suspect had set up a laboratory in his apartment where he manufactured dangerous chemical substances to outfit improvised explosive devices.
During a search of the detainee’s residence, SBU officers discovered explosive substances, laboratory equipment, ammunition, anti-personnel mines and demolition equipment. Computer equipment was also seized, which contained evidence of creating and administering the Telegram channel. SBU investigators informed the man of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 258-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — public calls to commit a terrorist act — and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosive substances. The suspect is currently in custody. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing — law enforcement is establishing all circumstances of the case and possible accomplices.
The Telegram channel through which the dangerous materials were disseminated has been blocked by the SBU. Operational and investigative measures were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
