President of Russia, Vladimir Putin said that the proposals of U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine require difficult decisions from Moscow. At the same time he called these proposals a step in the right direction. The Russian president voiced this assessment at the plenary session of the discussion club «Valdai».
According to Putin, to conclude peace Moscow seeks to obtain long-term security guarantees and appropriate conditions. At the same time he accused the Ukrainian side of unwillingness to stop the fighting:
“There is no desire on the part of the enemy to cease hostilities.”
Separately the head of the Kremlin put forward demands to Ukraine concerning the Russian language and the church. He formulated his position as follows:
“It would be right to avoid losses on both sides and find peaceful solutions regarding Ukraine, which concern, in particular, the Russian language and the church.”
Also Putin said that if necessary Russia can change its position during negotiations. In support he recalled the summit in Anchorage: according to him, there he agreed to the proposals of the American side.
