September 17 and overnight into September 18 Ukrainian forces struck a ground control station for Russian drones “Orion”. The target was located at the Saky airfield near Novofedorivka in temporarily occupied Crimea, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

“Orion”, also known as “Inokhodets”, is a Russian reconnaissance-strike unmanned aerial system. It can remain airborne for up to 24 hours, conduct reconnaissance and employ guided weapons against ground targets.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained the consequences of the strike:

“The destruction of the ground control station significantly limits the occupiers’ ability to use these systems in the relevant operational direction.”

In the same statement, the military named several other Russian targets that were struck:

  • in the Donetsk area they struck a storage, preparation and launch site for strike drones;
  • in the Dovzhansk area of Luhansk they confirmed a strike on a Russian ammunition depot;
  • near Kypuche they hit a supply depot of the occupying forces.
