English has become mandatory in the senior groups of Mykolaiv kindergartens
Twelve municipal institutions are still short of teachers
In Mykolaiv kindergartens, from September studying English has become mandatory for all children of older preschool age in accordance with legislation. The head of the Department of Education, Hanna Lychko, described the organization of classes at the start of the new school year during a briefing.
Preschoolers are scheduled to have 2 lessons of English per week. The foreign language is also integrated into everyday kindergarten life: it is used during morning meetings, games, walks, and music classes.
The situation with English teachers in the city’s preschool institutions is currently as follows:
- 24 institutions are already fully staffed with teachers;
- another 8 institutions will receive specialists who are expected to start work from October 2026;
- 12 kindergartens still need English teachers.
