This day in Ukraine and the world

10 September 1894 Oleksandr Petrovych Dovzhenko was born in the Chernihiv region — the film director, writer and one of the founders of Ukrainian cinema, as the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance reminds. The date 29 August 1894 sometimes found in biographies is given in the old style and corresponds to 10 September in the modern calendar. And on 10 September 2008 near Geneva at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider they sent the first beam of particles around the 27-kilometre ring of the world’s largest accelerator.

That was September 10: a naval vessel in central Mykolaiv, a bronze bride, work for shipbuilders, City Day under Russian missiles, Okeanivska’s problems and life in the Korabelnyi District, which continued even during the war.
