In Mykolaiv, a fraudulent call center swindled people out of money under the guise of crypto investments
Seven operators were working in the apartment-office
Call center operated in the regional center and defrauded foreign citizens. During investigative actions, law enforcement officers identified seven people who “worked” in a rented apartment converted into an office.
The illegal activities of the suspects were exposed by investigators of the Mykolaiv District Police Department with operational support from the regional Department for Combating Cybercrime in Mykolaiv Oblast of the Cyberpolice and detectives of the Criminal Investigation Department, under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office.
During the investigation, police established that the fraudulent “office” was set up by the perpetrators in a rented apartment. Operators searched for potential victims both on social networks and by calling them, communicating in their native language. The scammers offered victims profitable cryptocurrency investments, thereby appropriating citizens’ funds.
During investigative actions, law enforcement officers identified seven people involved in the operation of the call center.
During a sanctioned search at the location of the “office,” the police seized 18 mobile phones, nine laptops and other physical evidence that may have evidentiary value.
The pre-trial investigation continues within the framework of a criminal proceeding initiated under part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – fraud committed by means of illegal operations using electronic computing equipment.
The article’s sanction provides for punishment of up to eight years of imprisonment.
Law enforcement officers are identifying other persons involved in the criminal activity, the full list of victims, and the amount of damage caused.
