Went to the playground and disappeared: a 7-year-old girl was found by a police dog
Nait picked up the trail: the service dog quickly found the lost child
In Kyiv a service dog helped police promptly locate a 7-year-old girl who went missing during a walk at a playground. This was reported to the capital’s police on July 22, 2026.
Around midday the child went to play at the playground near the building. A few hours later the mother went out to call her daughter home, but the girl was no longer there. Independent searches produced no results, so the woman turned to the authorities. The nearest police patrols were assigned to search for the child. The search was also joined by police canine handler Serhii Shostakov with his service dog Nait.
The handler asked the mother for the daughter’s clothing so the dog could pick up a scent. In less than 40 minutes Nait led the officers through yards to another playground where the missing girl was. No unlawful acts were committed against the child. The police confirmed that she did not require medical assistance and handed her over to her mother.
Law enforcement urged parents to carefully monitor their children’s whereabouts and to contact the police immediately in case they go missing.
