Moped rider with a grenade: in the Odesa region, a man with the status СЗЧ wounded two police officers
A routine stop of a moped rider for a traffic violation ended in an explosion
In the Podilskyi district of Odesa region, a man detonated a grenade near patrol officers who had stopped him for a traffic rules violation. Wounds were sustained by two police officers and the offender himself.
The Odesa police reported this.
The incident occurred on 5 July 2026. The crew of the patrol police response unit stopped a moped driver for a traffic rules violation.
During the document check, officers established that the 52-year-old man has the status СЗЧ – unauthorized departure from a military unit.
According to preliminary police information, after that the moped rider took out a grenade and began threatening to use it. A moment later the explosive device detonated.
As a result of the explosion, two police officers and the 52-year-old man were wounded. The authorities have not yet disclosed information about the severity of their condition.
A forensic-operational group of the territorial police unit is working at the scene. Law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the grenade, the circumstances of its detonation and all details of the incident.
After carrying out initial investigative actions, the incident will be given a legal qualification.
