Mykolaiv honored defenders on the 30th anniversary of the Constitution: flowers at Shevchenko and the Alley of Memory
Granaturov stressed that the Constitution guarantees Ukrainians the right to live in a free and democratic state
In Mykolaiv on June 28, ahead of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, a commemorative event was held to honor Ukrainians who, at various times in history and today, defend the freedom and independence of the state.
The Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported on the ceremony.
Among the participants were Deputy Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Yurii Granaturov, representatives of regional and city authorities, servicemen, law enforcement officers, volunteers, students and city residents.
Those present laid flowers at the monument to Taras Shevchenko and on the Alley of Remembrance, honoring all who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence, and also joined the nationwide minute of silence in memory of the fallen defenders.
In his address to the community, Yurii Granaturov emphasized that the Constitution of Ukraine is not only the Fundamental Law, but also an act that records the right of the Ukrainian people to live in a free, independent and democratic state.
“Today our servicemen and servicewomen defend this right every day. It is precisely thanks to our Defenders that Ukraine was, is and will be independent,” said Yurii Granaturov.
The regional administration added that the Constitution of Ukraine remains the cornerstone of statehood, guarantees the rights and freedoms of citizens and is one of the key symbols of independence for which Ukrainian service members continue to fight.
Note that on June 28 Ukraine celebrates Constitution Day — one of the main state holidays, since it was on this day in 1996 that the Verkhovna Rada, after almost a day of continuous work, adopted the Fundamental Law of independent Ukraine, which became the cornerstone of the modern Ukrainian state.
