Sailing season under threat: storm smashed the boats of young athletes from Mykolaiv
Youth sailing is once again reliant on donations: the yacht club is asking for help
In Mykolaiv OSDYUSSHOR for Sailing “Regional Yacht Club” announced an urgent fundraiser to repair and restore boats damaged by a storm during the recent Ukrainian Championship. The sports institution published on June 3, 2026 on its Facebook page.
According to the yacht club, due to severe weather conditions during the competition the fleet suffered serious damage. The estimated cost of repairing and restoring the boats is 220,000 hryvnias. The sports school emphasizes that the boats are the foundation of the institution’s work. Without them, the training process could effectively stop, and the sailing season for dozens of talented athletes would be at risk.
Representatives of “Regional Yacht Club” noted that even small contributions can help return the fleet to the water more quickly and ensure safe training for the pupils. In the post the sports institution appealed to concerned citizens to support the restoration of the damaged boats.
“Every 10, 50 or 100 hryvnias is a contribution to the safety of our pupils and to new victories under the blue-and-yellow flag” – the yacht club emphasized.
The fundraising goal is – 220,000 hryvnias for repairing and restoring the fleet. The institution also promised to provide a full and transparent report on every hryvnia spent.

This situation again shows how vulnerable sports infrastructure remains, especially youth sports, which often depend on community support. At the same time, it is these schools that give children the opportunity to train, represent Mykolaiv at competitions, and win under the Ukrainian flag.
