Senkevych: Mykolaiv lacks funds for housing and communal services

In Mykolaiv, the Department of Housing and Communal Services has seen a decline in funding and in the number of projects being implemented. Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych made the statement during a staff meeting on May 11, 2026.

According to the mayor, he had raised the issue at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko and other government representatives.

“In the Department of Housing and Communal Services the amount of money has decreased and the number of projects has decreased. I raised this issue at a meeting with the Prime Minister and representatives of the entire Cabinet of Ministers. The Prime Minister heard about this for the first time. That’s how our letters from Mykolaiv get through. But the main thing is that she took it up,” – Senkevych said.

The mayor also said that the situation with budget funding was now being discussed with Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko. According to Senkevych, the Ministry of Finance is reviewing how the city budget has been spent.

“We are working on this issue with Serhii Mykhailovych Marchenko. He reported that the Ministry of Finance is checking our budget, the use of budget funds – whether we are simply ‘beggars’, or whether there really is not enough money. And they will provide feedback in the near future,” – said the mayor.

Oleksandr Senkevych also called on the Department of Housing and Communal Services to strengthen oversight of the financial activities of the enterprises under its authority.

“I would like the Department of Housing and Communal Services to step up oversight of the use of financial resources of the subordinate enterprises that report to the department,” – he added.
