Former prosecutor of the Mykolaiv region, Dmytro Kazak, filed a new lawsuit with the Kharkiv District Administrative Court. This time he demands recovery in his favor of UAH 4.8 million of allegedly unpaid salary for past periods of work in the prosecutor’s offices. This was reported by the publication OBOZ.UA on April 24, 2026.

This is the same ex-prosecutor who already won a court case securing a pension of UAH 156.7 thousand per month. According to media reports, 36-year-old Dmytro Kazak has been living for several years in Linköping in Sweden, is looking for work abroad and at the same time continues to litigate in Ukraine over payments from the state system.

According to OBOZ.UA, Dmytro Kazak believes that, as with a number of other prosecutors, his official salary was calculated incorrectly in previous years. In the lawsuit he asks to recover UAH 3.7 million from the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office and another UAH 1.1 million from the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The total amount claimed is UAH 4.8 million.

The Kharkiv District Administrative Court has so far left the claim without movement and gave 10 days to correct the deficiencies. The problem is that, according to procedural rules, the ex-prosecutor should have appealed to the court within 1 month after dismissal, i.e., back in 2024. Now he must not only claim the money, but also ask the court to reinstate the missed filing deadline.

Dmytro Kazak resigned from the position of head of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office in January 2024. He led it from 2022, and before that he headed the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office. According to OBOZ.UA, he went on a prosecutor’s pension very early: he began receiving the first payments already at 29 years old, and now, at 36, he already has pensioner status with payments that are many times higher than the pensions of most Ukrainians.

Earlier the Kharkiv District Administrative Court had already satisfied Kazak’s claim regarding his pension. On March 23, 2026, Judge Oleksiy Koteniov issued a decision obliging the Pension Fund in 2026 not to apply reducing coefficients to his pension. The decision was published on March 26.

The case files stated that Dmytro Kazak‘s pension amounts to UAH 156,692.50, but the Pension Fund limited it to UAH 44,733.25. It was this limitation that the ex-prosecutor appealed in court.

“From the recalculation protocol available in the case materials, the court established that the plaintiff’s pension amounts to UAH 156,692.50; however, the plaintiff’s pension was limited to the amount of UAH 44,733.25, which is confirmed by the case materials. The plaintiff, considering such actions by the defendant unlawful, appealed to the court with this claim,” the case materials emphasize.

Kazak’s pension story became high-profile already at the beginning of 2026. As Korabelov.info previously wrote, the former prosecutor obtained disability status, was able to retire early, and then through the courts secured the return of payments totaling over UAH 156 thousand per month. The Pension Fund tried to limit these payments, but the court sided with the ex-prosecutor.

Questions were also raised about the behavior of the Pension Fund itself. According to previous publications, the agency failed to timely appeal the court decision regarding Kazak’s pension, effectively missing the appeal deadline. As a result, the payment of UAH 156.7 thousand remained in force.

The ex-prosecutor’s new lawsuit concerns not the pension but salary for past periods. Dmytro Kazak believes that his pay should have been calculated under different rules, because certain provisions of the budget legislation that effectively limited official salaries were declared unconstitutional.

The case materials state that the ex-prosecutor is asking to be compensated for the unpaid portion of salary for the periods from 01.07.2015 to 13.12.2019 and from 16.12.2019 to 10.09.2020.

And according to journalists, Dmytro Kazak now resides in Sweden with his wife Rinata. On his LinkedIn profile, he reportedly searches for work in Sweden while at the same time listing employment in the Ukrainian company KPD Consulting, headed by his brother Kyrylo Kazak.

This story seems especially cynical against the backdrop of war, continual fundraising for the army, shortages of money in communities, and the meager pensions of most Ukrainians. While some people give their last for drones, medical treatment for soldiers and the survival of families, a former high-ranking prosecutor who is abroad continues to litigate for new multi-million payments from the Ukrainian budget.
