In February, thanks to automatic in-motion weighing systems (WIM), the state budget was replenished by more than 7.6 million hryvnias in fines, and the highest number of violations of size and weight limits was recorded on the roads of Mykolaiv region, the State Agency for Restoration reported.

According to the agency, the most cases of overloading were recorded in three regions: Mykolaiv Oblast — 37 violations, Vinnytsia Oblast — 27, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast — 21.

WIM complexes determine the mass of vehicles using sensors integrated into the road surface, which allows detecting overloads without the need to stop the vehicle.

In addition to weight, the system’s cameras record speed, dimensions and license plates. Detected violations are automatically transmitted to the data processing centers of the State Agency for Restoration and Ukrtransbezpeka, where rulings imposing fines are generated.

The agency emphasizes that such technology not only disciplines carriers but also helps preserve the road surface from premature deterioration.

“WIM systems help automatically detect overloaded trucks, reduce road damage, and improve the discipline of carriers,” the statement says.
