Marines are advancing deeper into the occupied left bank of Kherson region, while also holding positions on the islands of the Dnieper. Ukrainian units are consolidating their positions on the lines they have captured.

The chief of staff of the 34th Separate Marine Brigade, Alim Kerimov, spoke to Crimea.Realities journalists about the situation on the Dnieper front.

“We have many positions on the left bank where rotations are carried out on a regular basis. We are advancing throughout the island zone and, to be frank, we are making progress in one of the settlements on the left bank,” Alim Kerimov said.

The serviceman also described how the nature of Russian combat operations has changed. Previously, infantry assaults were the main way to break through Ukrainian defenses. Now Russian forces mostly strike positions held by the Defense Forces and civilian infrastructure.

According to the chief of staff, the number of Russian assault sorties has fallen from about 700 to 150–200 a year.

“The enemy understands that none of its ambitions or offensive operations are succeeding. So it has simply turned to this terror against civilians,” Alim Kerimov explained.

Another way the occupiers are trying to bypass Ukrainian positions is through underground passages. Russian troops build shelters and dig tunnels approximately 50 meters long. Ukrainian forces detect and destroy these structures.
