To ease the landfill’s burden: Mykolaiv has decided who will sort the waste
The winner of the competition must build the sorting line at their own expense
In Mykolaiv, city council members approved a resolution designating LLC “LNK RECYCLING” as the waste-sorting operator. The city council announced the decision on November 6. The company had previously won an open tender.
During the council session, Ihor Nabatov, first deputy director of the Department of Municipal Economy, outlined the company’s commitments:
- Build a sorting line at its own expense within 13 months of signing the relevant contract.
- Contribute 10% of its revenue toward maintaining the municipal solid waste landfill.
According to the official, the project will provide the city with an important piece of infrastructure.
“We will be able to get a facility that will reduce the burden on the operating solid waste landfill,” said Ihor Nabatov.
Nabatov also drew attention to current waste management practices in Mykolaiv: waste is buried in landfills. He stressed that this is the least environmentally friendly method. The launch of the sorting line is expected to help improve the situation.
“We could potentially reduce the burden on the solid waste landfill by up to 35 percent, which would allow it to remain in operation longer,” added Ihor Nabatov.
