Massive attack on energy infrastructure: emergency power outages in Kyiv and other regions
Electricity will be restored first to critical infrastructure facilities
Emergency power outages were introduced in several regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, on November 3. Massive Russian shelling has severely disrupted the power system. The situation was reported by NPC Ukrenergo.
The latest attack is among the largest strikes by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy sector. According to the company, the country’s energy facilities were deliberately attacked more than 20 times over the past day. Russian forces used an unprecedented number of weapons in these strikes. The energy infrastructure sustained significant damage.
A new wave of attacks has been underway since overnight, further worsening the situation in the power system. At the same time, thousands of energy workers have been working since overnight to deal with the aftermath of the shelling and restore electricity.
Critical infrastructure facilities will be prioritized when power supply is restored. Relevant services are coordinating their efforts around the clock to stabilize the power system as quickly as possible and restore electricity to consumers.
Ukrenergo assured the public that it is making every possible effort to restore power as soon as possible. The company promised to provide further updates on the state of the power system.
