October 2026 was a month full of events for residents of Mykolaiv and the surrounding region, stirring fear, outrage, sympathy, and heated debate. Russian strikes on residential buildings, businesses, and civilian transport; the debate over General Dmytro Marchenko’s role in defending the city; a farmer plowing under tomatoes; a tiger cub escaping from the zoo; complaints about teenagers; and a flower theft scandal in the Korabelnyi District — these were among the most widely discussed topics on the “Korabelov.info Mykolaiv” Telegram channel.

The editorial team analyzed 16 posts included in the supplied ranking of the most popular posts for October. Since a significant number of the posts concerned Russian shelling and FPV drone attacks, they were grouped into a separate topic. The remaining stories were reviewed individually.

Views, forwards, reactions, and comments have been preserved for each item. These figures show not only which posts were read most often, but also which stories people actively shared and discussed.

1. Russian attacks: the most forwards and thousands of views

The largest group by number of posts covered Russian strikes on Mykolaiv and the surrounding region. In October, readers followed reports of damage to homes, shops, a hotel, a postal terminal, an administrative building, and vehicles.

FPV drone attacks drew particular attention, including strikes on a bus and an energy workers’ vehicle. These were not just reports of destruction, but also reminders of the danger faced by people traveling on the region’s roads or going about their daily work.

2. Who defended Mykolaiv: mayor’s adviser’s statement sparked 573 comments

One of the month’s most discussed topics was a statement by Hennadii Zadyrko, a non-staff adviser to the Mykolaiv mayor, about General Dmytro Marchenko’s role in defending Mykolaiv in the spring of 2022.

Hennadii Zadyrko said that the general’s public image as the city’s chief savior was exaggerated. He emphasized the contributions of artillery personnel, infantry, other service members, and local residents who took part in the defense.

The adviser said his assessment was based, in part, on conversations with people who took part in events between February and April 2022. This is Zadyrko’s view, not an established fact about the individual contribution of each person involved in the defense.

The post sparked 573 comments — the most of any item in October’s ranking. It also received 203 reactions, the highest figure in the sample.

3. Tomatoes under the tractor: a story that drew 526 comments

The story of a field of unsold tomatoes sparked one of the month’s fiercest debates.

For several weeks, videos circulated on social media showing people picking tomatoes left in the field. Later, footage emerged of a farmer plowing the plot, crop leftovers and all.

Explanations shared online linked the marketing difficulties, among other things, to the destruction of processing plants as a result of Russian aggression.

Some users were outraged that the produce was being destroyed and suggested giving the vegetables to people in need or to the military. The farmer, in turn, complained about the behavior of people who came to collect free tomatoes, including those who, he said, acted rudely.

The post received 526 comments. By this measure, it was second only to the discussion about the defense of Mykolaiv.

4. Tiger cub on the loose: a day of searching and a happy ending

On October 25, news broke that a young Amur tiger had escaped from the Mykolaiv Zoo.

The animal was only 4.5 months old. It managed to squeeze between the metal bars of the quarantine enclosure. Zoo staff searched the grounds, bringing in a dog handler and hunting dogs.

The search continued throughout the day. It was later reported that the effort had been temporarily suspended because the staff were exhausted. The cub was eventually found with the help of a thermal imaging camera and reunited with the other tiger cub.

According to the zoo, after being brought back, the little tiger ate and played, and was in no danger.

The story received 4,831 views, 104 forwards, and 193 comments. It was the third most-commented post in the sample.

5. Noise, alcohol, and litter: teenagers’ behavior angered residents

Readers also paid attention to concerns about young people’s behavior in Mykolaiv’s courtyards.

Residents complained about nighttime noise, smoking and drinking alcohol in children’s playgrounds, litter, profanity, and insults in response to adults’ remarks.

The discussion unfolded in the “Korabelov.info” Facebook group. Opinions were divided: some demanded order and respect for residents, while others urged people not to generalize about all teenagers and pointed to young people’s need for places to socialize and spend their free time.

The post received 5,205 views and 134 comments. This was the fourth-highest comment count among the ranked posts.

6. Flower theft scandal in Korabelnyi District: two women accused

Among the most popular local news stories was a report about two women accused of stealing flowers in Mykolaiv’s Korabelnyi District.

The post included footage from a surveillance camera showing women with bags near a fence and a green space.

The story drew the attention of district residents, for whom the condition of flower beds, greenery, and public spaces remains an important issue.

However, an accusation alone does not establish the women’s guilt. The supplied materials contain no information about a court ruling or official findings by law enforcement regarding the incident.

Despite receiving relatively few comments — 9 — the post garnered 179 reactions. By this measure, it was second only to the report about the mayor’s adviser’s statement (203 reactions) among all the ranked posts.

7. Road accident in Korabelnyi District: motorcyclist hit

The October ranking also included a road accident in Korabelnyi District in which a motorcyclist was hit.

The report received more than 5,000 views. Readers forwarded it 43 times and left 13 comments.

The story was another reminder of residents’ concern about road safety and dangerous situations involving two-wheeled vehicles.

8. “Game of Thrones” star visits Mykolaiv

One of the month’s most notable positive stories was the visit of Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, known to viewers for his role as Jaime Lannister in the series “Game of Thrones.”

On October 30, 2026, he visited Mykolaiv, including the local FREEDOM Art Pub, where he chatted with visitors and posed for photos with them.

The post about his visit to Mykolaiv received 4,897 views and 57 forwards, but only 1 comment.

October’s ranking shows that the Korabelov.info audience responds actively both to events that directly threaten people’s safety and to everyday conflicts, public debates, and unusual local stories.
