Ramps and Accessible Services: Mykolaiv Approves Barrier-Free Programme Project
The 2027–2029 document is still to be considered by lawmakers
In Mykolaiv, the city council’s executive committee gave preliminary consideration to and approved the draft of the “Mykolaiv Without Barriers” program for 2027–2029. The document will next be considered by city council members. For now, this is approval of the draft, not final adoption of the program.
The document aims to make the urban environment more accessible for people with disabilities, veterans, older people, and other people with limited mobility. Its priorities include restoring and upgrading infrastructure, as well as improving employment opportunities and access to services.
The draft includes the following measures:
- installing ramps in apartment buildings where wheelchair users live, as well as repairing elevators;
- improving access to healthcare, educational, cultural, and sports facilities;
- expanding the network of inclusive tourist routes;
- providing sign language interpretation when delivering public services;
- supporting employment for people from vulnerable groups;
- covering the cost of driving lessons in a car with hand controls.
