Putin declared his readiness to negotiate and threatened to achieve all the goals of the war

President Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to resume trilateral talks on Ukraine. He said their goal would be a peace agreement and arrangements for future security guarantees for both countries. At the same time, he insists on a final settlement rather than a pause in hostilities.

Abu Dhabi could host talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia. The meeting could take place in November.

Speaking about the war, the Russian president blamed Ukraine’s leadership for its continuation and questioned the need to supply it with weapons:

“We do not want to fight Ukraine. If Ukraine’s current leadership wants to fight, let it fight—but why does it think everyone should pay for it and supply them with weapons? We are still ready to reach agreements and seek solutions to this difficult situation. These are people very close to us. Recent genetic studies show that Russians and Ukrainians are one people,” said Vladimir Putin (translated from Russian).

It is unclear which genetic studies he was referring to. Putin also said that discussions on the future security of Russia and Ukraine should also cover the architecture of European security.

He paired his statement that an agreement was possible with a threat to achieve all of the war’s stated objectives:

“I think we can reach an agreement. We are ready to do so. But if someone wants things to go differently—then so be it. In any case, we will accomplish our objectives, and all the goals of the ‘special military operation’ will be achieved,” Putin added (translated from Russian).

Regarding relations with Europe, the Russian Federation president claims that European countries do not want war with Russia, and that Russia supposedly does not seek conflict with them. According to him, the Russian Federation is not preparing to fight European countries.
