A model of Mykolaiv’s “Fairy Tale” survived beneath the rubble and made it to a museum
The original concept for the town differs somewhat from the project as built
The original cardboard scale model of the Fairy Tale children’s town was handed over to the collections of the Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local History on October 20. The exhibit is over 45 years old.
The model offers a glimpse of the town’s original architectural design, which differs somewhat from the project completed in 1982.
Researchers found the model among the rubble of a facility belonging to one of Mykolaiv’s enterprises, damaged by Russian missile strikes. A wooden crate in which it had been stored helped preserve it.
Representatives of the regional and city authorities, as well as a local historian, took part in handing over the exhibit. The participants included:
- Yurii Granaturov — deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration;
- Yurii Liubarov — head of the Department of Culture and Arts of the Mykolaiv City Council;
- Olena Buberenko — head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration;
- Andrii Shynkarenko — local historian.
Kateryna Barbaianova, the museum’s acting director, said the model would be added to the museum’s permanent exhibition in the near future.
