Land near the Southern Bug was illegally allocated for housing — Mykolaiv won back the plot in court
The plot is also located in a public green space
The Mykolaiv territorial community is to have another plot on the bank of the Southern Bug returned to it. The land had previously been transferred to a private individual for the construction of a residential building. The Central District Court of Mykolaiv upheld another claim by the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office to recover the land for the community.
The plot covers 1,000 square metres. It lies within the river’s coastal protective strip and is also part of the city’s public green space. The court found that, by transferring the land into private ownership, the Mykolaiv City Council had violated land, water and urban-planning laws. The court found the prosecutor’s arguments to be well-founded.
The law prohibits transferring such plots into private ownership for residential construction. Coastal protective strips and public-use land may be owned only by the state or a local community. These areas are intended, among other things, to ensure people’s free access to bodies of water, so transferring them into private hands is prohibited.
Since the beginning of 2026, courts have upheld 10 similar claims brought by the prosecutor’s office. Under the rulings, the city is to receive back water-fund land plots covering a total area of 1 hectare. Their combined value exceeds 4 million hryvnias.
The prosecutor’s office continues to seek the return of illegally transferred plots along the banks of bodies of water and in the green spaces of Mykolaiv.
