Mobile communications in Mykolaiv are less prepared for blackouts than in the region

Mobile networks of Mykolaiv are currently less prepared for prolonged power outages than the average in the Mykolaiv region. Regional and city authorities together with mobile operators plan to strengthen backup power so that communications remain available during possible blackouts.

The readiness of the city’s critical infrastructure for prolonged power loss became one of the main issues of working meetings held today, 30 September, by the acting head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Heorhiy Reshetilov. The results of the meetings were reported by the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.

In the RMA they assessed the readiness of mobile networks as follows:

“At present, the level of readiness of mobile communications in Mykolaiv for prolonged outages is lower than the regional average.”

For operators’ base stations to continue operating without power from the grid, they must be provided with backup power sources. Operators and regional and city authorities will work together to strengthen them and increase the resilience of mobile networks.

A separate topic of the meetings was the quality of Mykolaiv‘s water supply. Participants reviewed current information about the system’s condition, identified problem issues and the next steps to resolve them. Following the meetings, they outlined priority tasks and appointed those responsible for their implementation.
