Marina Vlady has died — a star of French cinema and the widow of Vysotsky
The actress and Cannes Film Festival laureate was 88 years old
French actress Marina Vlady has died at the age of 88. Her relatives told the AFP agency, reports the BBC.
The actress’s real name was Katerina-Marine Polyakova-Baidarova. She was born near Paris into a family of emigrants from Russia, and she played her first film role at 11 in an Italian movie.
During her career Marina Vlady collaborated with well-known directors and actors:
- Jean-Luc Godard;
- Orson Welles;
- Bertrand Tavernier;
- Marcello Mastroianni.
Among the most famous films featuring her are:
- «The Witch»;
- «The Princess of Cleves»;
- «Significant Evidence»;
- «Midnight Bells».
In 1963 the actress received a prize at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in director Marco Ferreri’s film «The Queen Bee».
In 1970 Marina Vlady married the Soviet actor, poet and singer Vladimir Vysotsky. They remained married until Vysotsky’s death in 1980. Later the actress wrote a book about him, «Vladimir, or Interrupted Flight». They had no children together.
Before marrying Vysotsky, the actress had been married to director Robert Hossein and traveler Jean-Claude Bruyé. From the first marriage she had two sons, from the second — one. Later Marina Vlady married for the fourth time.
