Hidden underground leak: water supply on Mykolaivska Street restored

Specialists of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivvodokanal” eliminated a serious accident on the water supply network on Mykolaivska Street in Mykolaiv. After the repair, water supply to the neighborhood’s residents was restored. Before that, part of the Inhulskyi District had been left without water.

The leak remained unnoticed for a long time because the water did not surface. It flowed underground and ran along the heating main’s trough. The problematic section was discovered during a network inspection, and after a thorough check the exact location of the damage to the 150 mm diameter water pipe was determined.

During the excavation work, the repair crew encountered additional difficulties. In one trench a water main, a heating main and a gas pipeline run together, so they had to work as carefully as possible to avoid damaging adjacent utility lines.

Because of the prolonged underground leak, a lot of mud accumulated in the work area, which significantly complicated the repair. The company’s workers joked:

“It’s a good thing it’s only early autumn outside, so at least this mud hasn’t frozen!”

Despite the difficult conditions, the specialists installed a reliable repair clamp on the damaged pipe and promptly restored water to residents. At the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivvodokanal” they noted that work on the emergency site will continue: in the near future the crew will carry out the next stage of its major overhaul after preparing the necessary components.
