In the Mykolaiv region, a man raped his 14-year-old niece in a stalled car
The court sentenced the defendant to 10 years in prison
Kazankiv District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast found a man guilty of raping his 14-year-old niece and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The crime took place at night on 26 March 2025 on a country road near the village of Troitsko-Safonove in the Bashtanskyi District of Mykolaiv Oblast.
Information about this is contained in the court verdict of 26 July, published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.
As the court found, the man was driving a car together with his niece and his partner. The car got stuck, so the woman went to look for help. When they were left alone, the man used physical force against the girl and committed sexual violence.
The victim was able to get out of the car after another vehicle stopped nearby. She asked the driver and passengers for help and told them what had happened. Later the girl informed her mother about the incident.
Witnesses described her condition as frightened: the girl was crying, complaining of pain and scratches on her neck. During the medical examination, bodily injuries were found. In the defendant’s car, torn female hair and biological traces were found.
“Mom, take me… I’m afraid to stay alone,” the girl wrote to her mother on Telegram after escaping.
In another message she described that the man had used force against her. The court also took into account her psychological state after the event: fear of being alone, depression, crying and a subsequent need for psychological help.
The man pleaded not guilty. He claimed that his niece had falsely accused him for material gain, arguing that her mother allegedly was in a difficult financial situation and regularly received assistance from him.
According to the defendant, that day they had been visiting someone together with his partner and the niece, and on the way home the car got stuck. After the partner went for help, the girl allegedly offered him intimate acts “for a laptop.” The man said he was outraged, pushed her away and kicked her, but did not commit sexual violence. He also said that the niece was screaming and threatening to tell her mother and his partner about the alleged attempted rape.
The man said that when another car arrived, the niece moved to it and declared that they wanted to rape her. The next day the police came to the man with a notice of suspicion of rape.
The court rejected these explanations. The victim’s and witnesses’ testimonies, the examination results and other evidence, in the court’s opinion, are consistent with each other.
The man’s actions were qualified under part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — rape of a minor. The penalty under this article provides for 7 to 12 years of imprisonment.
The term of punishment will be counted from 27 March 2025 — the day the man was detained. Until the verdict comes into legal force he will remain in custody.
In addition, the court ordered the convicted man to pay 262,471.65 hryvnias in expert examination costs. The verdict can be appealed to the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal within 30 days. If no appeal is filed, the decision will come into force after the expiry of that period.
