In Mykolaiv, a school has already had anti-radiation shelter structures installed

Quickly and reliably: a modern anti-radiation shelter is being built in one of Mykolaiv’s schools. In one of the schools in the Central District of Mykolaiv a safe and reliable shelter is being outfitted. It is being erected from prefabricated reinforced concrete structures, which significantly reduces the timeframes for the work. This technology has already been successfully applied in one of the region’s educational institutions.

The customer is the Capital Construction Department of the Mykolaiv City Council. The project is being implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) with financial support from the Government of Denmark under the “Restoration of Housing and Social Infrastructure” initiative.

The structures have already been installed on the prepared site. Interior finishing works are currently underway, and specialists will begin installing engineering systems in the near future. A wastewater treatment system, sewage, and a water tank have also been installed. The project also provides for landscaping of the area: pathways, the stadium, and playgrounds will be repaired and greenery will be planted.

The progress of the construction was inspected by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, his deputy Serhiy Koreniev, representatives of the UNOPS office in Ukraine — Massimo Diani and Tereza Molero Rodriguez, head of the Capital Construction Department Oleksiy Savchuk, as well as delegates from the Office of the Embassy of Denmark in Mykolaiv and the contracting organization.

“Today, together with UNOPS representatives, we inspected the progress of the shelter construction in one of Mykolaiv’s schools. Everything is proceeding on schedule, and the quality of the work meets the stated criteria. I liked it very much; I hope that by the end of this year everything will be completed, and children will be able to receive in-person education at this school”, – the mayor said.

Massimo Diani, who is completing his term as head of the UNOPS office in Ukraine, thanked the Mykolaiv team for their cooperation. He emphasized that the experience of building protective structures from precast reinforced concrete can serve as an example for other regions, as it allows safe spaces to be created much faster.
