106-year-old Petro Motornyi from Mykolaiv became the oldest man in Ireland
A resident of Mykolaiv worked for more than 50 years at a shipbuilding plant, and at the age of 104 he traveled abroad for the first time
Petro Tymofiyovych Motorniy, who turned 106, became the oldest man in Ireland. He spent and worked most of his life in Mykolaiv. This was reported by the organization Ukrainian Action in Ireland.
Motorniy was born on 5 November 1919 in the Cherkasy region. After finishing school he moved to Mykolaiv, where for more than 50 years he worked at a shipbuilding plant. He began his career as a welder and later became a workshop manager.
Despite his advanced age, Petro Tymofiyovych retains good memory and activity. He recites passages from Ivan Kotliarevsky’s “Eneida” by heart.
In February 2024, when Motorniy was 104, he obtained a passport for foreign travel for the first time in his life. After that he went to Ireland, where his family was waiting for him.
In November Petro Motorniy will celebrate his 107th birthday. Previously, the Mykolaiv authorities congratulated him on his birthday while he still lived in the city.
