Fall from an electric scooter: two children injured in the Mykolaiv region

Yesterday, August 31, at around 18:30 on the highway “Odessa – Voznesensk – Novyi Buh”, near the settlement of Yelanets, a road traffic accident involving an electric scooter occurred. According to preliminary information, the underage rider lost control and fell off it.

As a result of the accident, the 13-year-old rider and his 12-year-old passenger were injured. Medics hospitalized them from the scene. The injured are currently under medical supervision. Their lives and health are not in danger.

Investigators have classified the incident under the elements of a criminal offense provided for in Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, “Violation of current transport regulations”.

The police urge parents not to neglect the safety of children when using electric scooters and other types of personal electric transport.

Remember: a child must know and follow traffic rules, and parents should ensure that they can safely operate the vehicle.

Before a ride, be sure to take care of protective equipment. A helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and gloves will help reduce the risk of injury in case of a fall.

Do not allow children to ride onto the roadway without the necessary skills and knowledge of traffic rules. Explain to them that they must not make sudden changes of direction, use a phone while riding, or carry passengers if the vehicle’s design does not allow it.

Take care of your children’s safety — teach them to behave responsibly on the road and lead by example to show the importance of following the rules.
