He threatened a woman and her daughter with a grenade: in the Mykolaiv region a man was storing explosive devices
After the search, the court placed the man under house arrest
29 August a report was received by the Bashtanka District Police Department about hooliganism by a 49-year-old man. The complainant told officers that he was intoxicated, behaving aggressively and threatening her and her 18-year-old daughter with a grenade.
Upon arrival, police determined the conflict stemmed from family relations and bore signs of domestic violence. The woman and her daughter filed reports of bodily injuries and threats of murder.
During further documentation of the offense, the investigative-operational team established that the man was illegally storing explosive items. During an urgent search of his place of residence, law enforcement officers discovered and seized:
- F-1 grenade casing;
- RGD-5 grenade casing;
- fuzes for them.
Police bomb disposal unit personnel arrived at the scene. With necessary safety measures observed, they ensured the removal of the dangerous items. Investigators sent the seized items for expert examination.
According to the man, he found the explosive items and decided to keep them.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Bashtanka District Prosecutor’s Office, detained the suspect in accordance with procedural rules and notified him of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This provision establishes liability for the illegal acquisition, carrying, storage, transfer, or sale of firearms, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive devices without the legally required permit.
The article’s penalty provides for up to seven years imprisonment. The court imposed a preventive measure on the man in the form of 24-hour house arrest.
Additionally, law enforcement initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — for intentional minor bodily injury — and under Part 1 of Article 129 — for threats of murder.
After receiving the conclusions of the relevant expert examinations and if sufficient evidence exists, it will be decided whether to notify the suspect of suspicion for the mentioned criminal offenses. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The police reminded that pursuant to Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a person may be exempt from criminal liability if they voluntarily surrender weapons, ammunition, or other armaments that came into their possession in any way.
Unregistered weapons or ammunition can be surrendered to the nearest police station or reported via the emergency line 102.
