Searched for air-defense positions that Russia could strike with missiles: an FSB agent from Mykolaiv was sentenced to 15 years

In Mykolaiv a 37-year-old local resident was found guilty of treason in conditions of martial law. The man collected information for Russian intelligence services about military infrastructure, in particular positions of Ukrainian air defense and logistics warehouses of the Defense Forces. The court sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The verdict was reported on 27 August 2026 by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Mykolaiv regional prosecutor’s office.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the convict collected information about military infrastructure facilities directly on the territory of Mykolaiv. The Russian handler was most interested in air defense firing positions and the locations of logistics warehouses of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The man passed specific locations to a representative of the Russian Federation via a messenger.

The SBU clarified that the man was recruited by the FSB. He came under the attention of the Russian special service after he posted anti-Ukrainian messages in Telegram channel chats. After recruitment he began tracking Defense Forces facilities that the enemy could use as targets for missile-drone strikes on Mykolaiv.

To collect intelligence the agent moved around Mykolaiv and adjacent areas by bicycle. According to the SBU, he recorded Ukrainian facilities with his smartphone camera and collected their coordinates. Priority targets remained logistics warehouses and positions of Ukrainian air defense, which cover the city from Russian aerial attacks.

SBU counterintelligence officers exposed the man at the initial stage of his intelligence activity. In February 2026 he was detained in Mykolaiv. During searches law enforcement seized computer equipment and a mobile phone which, according to the special service, contained evidence of cooperation with the FSB.

Korabelov.info previously wrote about this case: 4 August 2026 the prosecutor’s office and the SBU reported that the indictment against the 37-year-old man had already been submitted to court. At that time law enforcement noted that he passed locations of air defense and military warehouses to the Russians, and searched for objects needed by the enemy by driving around the area.

The court found the resident of Mykolaiv guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason committed in conditions of martial law. He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.

At the same time the Mykolaiv regional prosecutor’s office emphasized that the verdict has not yet come into legal force. This means that it can be appealed in the manner prescribed by law. The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by SBU officers in the Mykolaiv region.
