Wet road and repairs ahead: the morning on the Varvarivskyi Bridge began with a three-vehicle crash

In the morning of 28 August 2026 a road traffic accident occurred on the Varvarivskyi Bridge in Mykolaiv involving as many as three vehicles — a VAZ-2106, a Skoda Octavia and “Bohdan-2111”. As a result of the crash an elderly passenger of one of the vehicles was injured, and traffic from the Varvarivka neighborhood toward the city center was significantly disrupted. This was at 09:02 reported “Novyny-N” from the scene.

All three vehicles were traveling on the Varvarivskyi Bridge from Varvarivka toward the central part of Mykolaiv. Before the section where repair works are being carried out the driver of the VAZ-2106 slowed down. The Skoda Octavia behind it also stopped.

According to preliminary information from the correspondent at the scene, the driver of the “Bohdan” traveling behind did not manage to brake in time. The report links this to failure to keep distance and a wet road surface. The vehicle crashed into the Skoda Octavia, after which the Skoda was pushed forward by the impact and collided with the VAZ.

At the same time this is, for now, a description of circumstances from the scene and not the mechanism of the accident officially established by the police. At the time the first information appeared there was no separate police statement with conclusions about the causes of the crash.

As a result of the triple collision an elderly female passenger of the “Bohdan-2111” was injured. According to witnesses, the woman hit her head hard. Medics arrived on the scene and were preparing the injured woman for hospitalization. There is currently no information about her exact diagnosis and condition. All three vehicles involved in the accident suffered mechanical damage.

The accident immediately affected traffic through one of the main approaches to Mykolaiv. As of 09:02 on 28 August a significant traffic jam had formed on the Varvarivskyi Bridge in the direction of the city center from Varvarivka. Drivers using this route should allow for possible delays. The circumstances of the traffic accident and the extent of the passenger’s injuries may be clarified.
