Two houses in Mykolaiv are powered by a solar power plant and are almost independent of the grid
The homeowners' association installed a solar PV system, batteries, and upgraded the heating system
From damaged windows to energy independence, OSBB “Khersonske shose, 48” and “Svyridova, 7” in Mykolaiv are steadily restoring and modernizing their buildings.
After Russian shelling in 2023, under the “VidnovyDIM” program almost all damaged windows in both buildings were replaced — in total this is over half of their overall number.
The following year the OSBBs used the “Enerhodim” program and modernized the internal heating system. They replaced the heat supply pipes and installed balancing valves, which allow heat to be distributed evenly between floors.
And in April this year the buildings took another important step toward energy independence. Under the “GreenDIM” program the OSBBs purchased a solar power plant with a capacity of 24 kW, a 30 kW inverter and batteries with a capacity of 60 kW. Today energy from the PV system powers the intercoms, pumps, individual heating points (ITP), external and internal lighting, surveillance cameras and elevators.
“We have practically reduced our utility payments to zero. Only the starting currents come from the city power grid,” — says Yevhen Korolkov.
The modernization does not end here. The OSBBs plan to upgrade the elevator equipment in both buildings, as well as carry out a large-scale project to insulate the façade and the attic.
This is an example of how systematic energy efficiency helps buildings become more comfortable, more economical and more independent from external networks.
