A drone struck a commuter train: timely evacuation saved 70 passengers

In the morning of 25 August 2026 a Russian drone struck a suburban train on the Mykolaiv — Dolynska route. Passengers and the locomotive crew were not injured. The attack was reported by the chairman of JSC «Ukrzaliznytsia» Oleksandr Peretsovskyi and the company’s press service.

“The 70 passengers on the train and the railway workers are all safe,” — said the chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Peretsovskyi.

Before the strike, Ukrzaliznytsia’s Monitoring Center, which monitors air threats around the clock, warned the train crew about the danger in advance. An elevated threat level was announced on the train, after which the railway workers organized an evacuation. In total, 70 passengers were taken off the train. At the moment the UAV struck, people were already in shelter. Acting head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Heorhii Reshetilov emphasized that avoiding casualties was possible thanks to the timely and coordinated actions of the railway staff.

At the site of the attack emergency services and railway workers are working to eliminate the consequences of the strike. Information about the nature of the damage is currently being clarified. Ukrzaliznytsia urged passengers to listen carefully to announcements during trips and to strictly follow the instructions of railway personnel.

“Neglecting safety rules is a danger to your life,” the company emphasized.
