At the Sviatohirsk Lavra, a monk was killed and two other monks sustained stab wounds
An attack by unidentified individuals occurred near St. Nicholas Church on August 23
On August 23 at about 11:00 a group of unknown individuals burst into the Sviatohirsk Lavra of the UOC. The attack took place near the St. Nicholas Church: one monk was killed, and two other monastic residents suffered stab wounds.
According to the publication “Union of Orthodox Journalists”, the deceased was monk Varsonofiy. His body was found with multiple stab wounds to the face.
The wounded monastics are — monk Hryhoriy and novice Andriy. They are currently in a hospital in Kharkiv in serious condition.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church later confirmed the killing of a monk of the Sviatohirsk Lavra. The circumstances of the attack are being investigated by the police.
Earlier, in Kharkiv a trial began for a monk who is accused of raping a minor.
