Fedorov did not speak with Zelensky after the statement about the elections and called for a response regarding corruption
The former defence minister called it his "moral right" to start a conversation about the elections
The former Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov said that after his appeal regarding the elections he did not speak with President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said this in an interview with BBC.
Fedorov believes that the head of state must answer questions about corruption in the government. In his view, the investigation by NABU and SAP titled “Forrest Gump” raises the question of whether the president knows what is happening in his closest circle.
The former minister also reiterated that “democracy should not be a hostage of Putin.” Asked by journalists about his own political ambitions he did not answer, but clarified that he considers it his “moral right” to start a conversation about the elections.
“We must not be afraid to discuss this. That is the essence of democracy. If I cannot share my ideas and be open to them in my own society, then what are we fighting for? If elections never take place, then we will no longer be a democracy.”
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said there was a conflict between then-Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi. According to Zelensky, Fedorov proposed to dismiss them both.
