In Odesa region, a 26-year-old man is suspected of transporting four people to Moldova
According to the investigation, each passenger had to pay $700 to illegally cross the border
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers uncovered a scheme for illegally transporting people to Moldova outside border checkpoints. A 26-year-old resident of the Oknyanska community was notified of suspicion.
According to the investigation, the man, together with an unidentified person, organized the illegal departure of four men from Ukraine. Each of them had to pay 700 dollars for passage across the state border.
According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the suspect met the passengers in Podilsk and drove them in his own car toward a border village. From there the men were supposed to cross the Ukrainian-Moldovan border on foot.
The car was stopped by border guards on the way out of Podilsk. The detained man had his vehicle and a mobile phone seized.
The court ordered that the man be held in custody with the possibility of posting bail. The suspect took advantage of this option.
The suspect’s actions were qualified under part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If his guilt is proven, the man may face up to nine years in prison with confiscation of property.
Border guards drew up administrative protocols for the four passengers.
