A drone attack was reported in Moscow and the Moscow region: 105 UAVs reportedly shot down and fires

On the night of 16 August, reports came in of a drone attack in Moscow and the Moscow region. The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin, said that Russia’s air defence had allegedly shot down 105 drones that were heading toward the capital of the aggressor country.

“Emergency service specialists are working at the site of the debris fall,” Sobyanin wrote on Telegram. He did not provide details about the consequences of the attack.

Rosaviatsia stated that, due to the threat, the Moscow airports Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky suspended operations.

That same night, loud explosions were heard in Russian Chekhov in the Moscow region. Local residents reported groups of drones flying by, air-defence activity and fires. According to monitoring public pages, the drones may have been heading toward a warehouse of the Wildberries marketplace.

Video from the scene was published by the channel Exilenova+. “Chekhov, Moscow region. They report drone flights and air-defence activity, also fires,” the message says.

Later monitoring channels said that, as a result of the work of Russian air defences, a drone allegedly struck an apartment building. According to them, the attack was ongoing. Local residents suggested that one of the possible targets could have been a Wildberries warehouse in Koledino.

OSINT analysis by ASTRA established that the largest Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk, Moscow region — in the village of Koledino — is on fire.

Subscribers of monitoring channels also reported a fire in Domodedovo, where the Green warehouses caught fire. Overall, monitoring groups reported three fires in the Moscow region.

Earlier it was reported that drones attacked a Wildberries warehouse in Yekaterinburg. Video from that incident was also published.
